hello!

My paintings have been greatly influenced and inspired by research and studies on global warming, climate change and its devastating effects. A long standing interest in nature, woodlands, landscapes, geological form and its structure, for me, had found an expression.

Study trips have taken me to different quarry sites all over Scotland, the last quarry (Pitcaple, Aberdeenshire) with its ever-changing faces and different formations and colours, features largely in this group of paintings. The paintings were developed from drawings on site and photographs for colour reference.

The mixed media I've used ranges from oil to ink, pencil and watercolour, to charcoal and acrylic and includes some printmaking. The Canadian 'Group of Seven' and Tom Thomson, have inspired me to be more expressive in my work, painting my natural surroundings, landscapes, woodlands, forests and quarry rock faces.

Perhaps climate change will alter people's perception of 'Landscape Painting' in the longer term but my aim is to try and capture, for the benefit of others, what I enjoy when I am painting.
